How to Create Engaging Content for Your Insurance Website

Digital marketing has taken over as the primary mode of attracting new customers for businesses today. Even in industries where face-to-face interactions and building relationships in the local community is important, such as the insurance industry, digital marketing still reigns supreme.  As an independent insurance agent, the heart of your digital marketing efforts is your insurance website. It serves as the central cog that keeps the wheel turning, with other spokes such as paid advertising and social media platforms contributing to your overall plan.  To build up your insurance website, you need to create engaging content because it builds authority and trust, drives traffic organically and can help improve your conversion rates.  In this article, we’ll discuss some ways you can create engaging content for your insurance website.

Understand What Your Audience Needs

Like any marketing efforts, it’s important to first understand who your audience is and what their needs are. Your insurance practice may have multiple audiences, or customer personas as they’re often called.  One might be a young couple who just got married, bought their first house and has their first baby on the way. Another might be an elderly couple who is retired and moving into an assisted living facility.  Having these customer personas will allow you to cater the content you put on your website to each, based on what their insurance needs are. The first persona is likely interested in auto and home insurance, and might be open to listening to term life insurance plans, while the second might not need auto or home but look for other insurance options to protect their money.  Not every piece of content you create has to speak to all customer personas you have. But clearly defining and separating them will help you cater content specifically to each.

Tell a Story

There is immense power in storytelling. When you tell a story, it helps people connect with you and what you’re saying, rather than it feeling like they’re being lectured to.  So, when you create content for your insurance website, do it in a storytelling way. You can bring in stories from another client and how a particular insurance policy made a difference in their lives.  This makes your story relatable to others, as they can put themselves in those customers’ shoes. In turn, this makes your message resonate more and makes it more likely that prospective customers act.  The goal of this content is to address prospective customers’ pain points and communicate to them how your agency can help.  Storytelling scenarios is a great way to make your content engaging, but you can also provide people a look “behind the curtains” of your agency, telling your story and that of your other agents, which humanizes you and your brand.

Make Interactive Content

The main goal of the content on your insurance website is to educate prospective customers and position you as an expert in your field. When you do this, people will be more likely to turn to you when they have insurance needs, rather than your competition.  This doesn’t mean that your content has to just be 500-word blogs from you or one of your agents. You can create interactive content that is fun, engaging and educational at the same time.  It’s easy today to create interactive chatbots and even quizzes that will help guide people through different policy options based around what needs they have. You can make it fun by incorporating fun facts or trivia throughout.

Make It Visual

By creating engaging visuals, you can take your content to the next level, making it easier to consume and more engaging at the same time. This could be anything from illustrations to videos to infographics.  Visuals are important for all types of content, but they can be particularly useful and effective if the concepts you are talking about are complex or hard-to-understand.  Regardless of the subject of the content, visuals can help people relate to your content better. Social media platforms are great for leveraging this, too, and can work hand-in-hand with your insurance website to attract new customers to your independent insurance agency.
